Stricter identity checks in place for IHG 2012
MEETING STORY by Low May Ann
The hosts of the upcoming Inter-Hall Games revealed during the IHG Summit Meeting last Thursday that they will personally conduct face-to-face identity checks of all players before a game.
As part of a new security addition, matric cards must be produced and verified 15 minutes before a match. This is to prevent halls from winning matches through skilled non-resident players, said the Eusoff Hall convenors.
“Actually, this rule was supposed to be enforced every year,” said Jonathan Ng, a spokesman for the convening committee. “We want to be fair and implement it for real.”
Eusoff Hall will also require three name lists from every team to make sure they stick to the limit on IVP players. The tiered identity check will ensure no team has falsely under-declared the skill level of their team to meet the IVP cap.
No captains objected to the stricter measures. “Apparently, a lot of people find it funny that they didn’t do this last year,” said softball captain and Sports Secretary Muhammad Jamil.
To facilitate this new initiative, registration forms for the players have been put online, to be downloaded and filled out ahead of time.
Zie Shen, an IHG convenor, said the extra measures were put in place due to a more efficient convening committee this year.
Other procedures will remain unchanged from previous years. Further updates will be made available online and to captains via e-mail.
The Summit meeting gathered the sports captains from each of the six NUS Residential Halls to formally agree upon and sign their respective Rules and Regulations, in preparation for the annual inter-hall competition to be held from 3 January to 18 February 2012.
